SAMSUNG J1 2016 REVIEW

One of the best phone I've ever use in my entire life. I've been using this phone for 2 years and still it performs above average. This is a great companion! Although it only has 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage, It doesn't matter. DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION

Galaxy J1 (2016) preserves the form factor and design of the series, and it now features a removable back. The latter has a matte finish and does not attract fingerprints. As it was mentioned, this is a 4.5-inch smartphone so holding it and working on it with one hand is comfortable, as your thumb can reach almost any point on the display. Also, J1 has a profile thickness of 8.9 mm, which is a bit thicker than Galaxy J3, for example, but this doesn’t take away from the smartphone’s compactness. The edges of the smartphone are slightly rounded which makes J1 sit even better in your palms.

Speaking of the smartphone’s back, it also holds the main 5MP camera and its LED flash. The loudspeaker is just next to them, and slightly below the camera, there is a Samsung inscription. You won’t find anything surprising on the front side either. Its lowest side holds the hardware Home button and the two other capacitive buttons for going back and opening the multitasking menu. It deserves mentioning that there is no LED backlight of these buttons. Above the screen, you can observe the front 2MP camera, earpiece, proximity sensor, and a smaller Samsung inscription. Unfortunately, Galaxy J1 (2016) does not have an ambient light sensor, and you won’t be able to choose auto brightness control.

         DISPLAY AND MULTIMEDIA

Galaxy J1 (2016) has a 4.5-inch display, which makes it the smallest, when compared to the other Galaxy J models. The same can be said about the resolution – 800 x 480 p. Also, the pixel density is around 207 ppi, which does not translate into a highly-detailed image. An important thing to note here is the present Super AMOLED panel that ensures more saturated and contrast colors, as well as wide viewing angles. In the settings menu, you will find several display modes. They change the color saturation and sharpness, making the image more suitable for reading or watching videos, for example. Another fascinating mode is the one for outdoor operation – it increases brightness beyond the 100% you can manually set, allowing you to have no problems with visibility even under direct sunlight. For safety reasons, this mode will remain turned on for up to 15 minutes or until you power off the screen because energy consumption also increases with these settings.

                           CAMERA
The camera equipment was not changed compared to the predecessor. Samsung still uses a 2 MP sensor at the front, and the results are blurry even under good lighting conditions. The camera is definitely not suited for good selfies. You should not use the front camera for videos, because the resolution is limited to VGA (640x480 pixels). At the rear is once again a 5 MP camera (f/2.2), which is supported by an LED flash and an autofocus. We can basically repeat the results from the old review: The camera is sufficient for snapshots in good lighting conditions, but you will notice the comparatively low resolution when you zoom in and the colors look a bit pale in comparison as well. This is also the case for low-light situations (Scene 3), but you can still see all the details. Compared to our other comparison devices, however, the picture is not as sharp. Videos can be recorded in the HD resolution at 30 frames per second. The sensor can also handle fast movements and the overall quality is okay.

                 OS, UI , AND APPS
As someone has problems with WiTeX ROM, I have the original version (Maybe the first or second release of this ROM) from... maybe April or May 2017? I uploaded the file to MediaFire. This is old version. The UI (User Interface) is Android 6.0 Marshmallow. I cannot guarantee if this version fixes the VoLTE. I haven't used VoLTE for almost 3 years on this phone. I also cannot test this as my phone is in a very very bad condition (Screen cracked as hell. No displayetc.). Luckily Vysor (by Koush Dutta) saved the day and I was still able to use this phone. I was very lucky because I left USB Debugging open (Without it open, I can never use this phoneagain). I use the phone by connecting it via USB to my laptop.

PERFORMANCE AND BENCHMARK
The Samsung Galaxy J1 (2016) phone has a 4.5-inch (800x480) Super AMOLED screen, a 5MP main camera and a 2MP selfie camera. The battery capacity is 2050 mAh and the main processor is a Spreadtrum SC9830 with 1 GB of RAM.

CONNECTIVITY, CALL QUALITY AND BATTERY LIFE

Battery

Galaxy J1 comes with a 2050 mAh battery, which is the smallest compared to the other Galaxy J models, although this is not always an indicator for durability. As it was already mentioned, Galaxy J1 is a 4.5-incher and does not feature a powerful CPU, so energy consumption will not be such a problem with them. This is why we expected a long battery life, and whether this is really so, we shall see thanks to the five tests we conduct – a phone call, Wi-Fi and 3G Web browsing, video playback and 3D gaming. The settings we used were the usual – screen brightness of 120 cd/m2, Wi-Fi module turned on, 3G turned off (except the 3G Web browsing test), Bluetooth and GPS turned off.

CONCLUSION
Outdoor performance was pretty respectable for such a cheap phone, as colours were bright and accurate even in overcast weather conditions. However, detail was rather lacking, as finer details tended to be very soft and muddy. It also struggled to expose bright clouds correctly, although switching over to its HDR mode quickly helped sort this out
